First, make sure the battery is fully charged. Second, check all battery cables and connections. It is good to clean any visible corrosion, but it is also necessary to perform a voltage drop test between the battery cable terminal at the battery and the opposite end of the same cable. Doing so can cause high voltage spikes that can damage the alternator as well as other electronics.
